Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 6, 2026

Scrappie is an iPhone app that edits your photos. This page explains what the app and this website do with your information, and it only describes what they actually do today. Scrappie is run by Jialang Zhao. You can reach us at support@scrappie.io.

The short version

  • You never have to give a name or email. The app creates an anonymous account for you.
  • The photos you choose to edit go to our server and to OpenAI. The app asks you first, and if you decline, nothing is uploaded. You can withdraw that permission in Little Details.
  • Your edits and their originals stay until you delete them. You can delete a photo, a page of your scrapbook, all your photo data or your whole account from inside the app.
  • We don’t sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps.

What we collect

  • Photos you choose. The originals of photos you develop in The Darkroom. For The Scrap Pile, small previews of every photo you pick, and then the originals of only the ones you confirm for editing. We also store the edited results. The app only receives the photos you pick in the iOS photo picker.
  • Notes about each edit. A short automatically written title and a short record of the creative direction, both based on the photo. They label your edits and help Try Another Edit go somewhere new.
  • An anonymous account. A random account ID, created the first time you open the app. Its sign-in token stays in your iPhone’s Keychain, and we store only a hash of it.
  • Sign in with Apple, if you use it. It is optional. We store Apple’s stable identifier for you and a token that lets us end the link when you delete your account. We don’t ask Apple for your name or email.
  • Your acceptance of the photo notice. Which version you accepted, and when.
  • Tickets and purchases. Your balance, a history of every ticket added or used, and for each purchase its transaction ID, ticket bundle, price, currency and App Store region. Apple takes the payment, and we never see your card details.
  • Support email, if you write to us. Your address and whatever you send.
  • Abuse protection. A salted hash of your IP address, used to limit how many requests can be made.

The app has no analytics or crash-reporting tools and no advertising identifiers, and it doesn’t ask for your location or contacts.

Website hosting and request logs

This website has no accounts, cookies or analytics.

We use Vercel to host our website and application services. Our hosting provider processes technical request information, which may include IP addresses, request details, timestamps, and error information, to deliver, protect, and maintain the service. On our current plan, these request logs are kept for up to 30 days. Scrappie also uses a salted hash of IP addresses for rate limiting, and each record is removed within about two days of its last use. We do not use advertising trackers or sell this information.

How editing uses your photos

Editing is done by OpenAI’s image model. Sorting, creative direction and titles use OpenAI’s vision model. Before your first upload, the app shows a notice and asks you to accept or decline. If you decline, nothing is uploaded. If that notice changes materially, the app asks again before your next upload.

You can withdraw at any time with Withdraw Photo Consent in Little Details. Nothing new is sent until you accept again, edits still waiting are cancelled and their tickets returned, and an edit OpenAI is already working on may finish and use its ticket. Your saved photos stay until you delete them.

When you edit or sort photos, they travel from your iPhone to our server and then to OpenAI, along with a one-way hash of your account ID, which OpenAI’s abuse monitoring uses to tell accounts apart. Here is what that means for those photos:

  • OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models by default.
  • OpenAI keeps abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days.
  • Images may be kept longer if OpenAI’s safety systems flag them.
  • We do not claim zero data retention for image edits.

Deleting a photo in Scrappie removes our copies, but it can’t reach what OpenAI is already holding under those terms. OpenAI’s own policies are at openai.com/policies.

How long we keep things

  • Saved edits and their originals: until you delete them.
  • Temporary uploads: removed as soon as they aren’t needed. Scrap Pile previews go when you decline a selection, when a photo isn’t selected, and once every edit you confirmed has finished or failed.
  • Unfinished work: after 24 hours, an upload that never finished is deleted, a selection you never answered is declined, and photos you were working on are deleted if none of them has a finished edit.
  • Tickets and purchase records: Deleting your photo data doesn’t touch them. If you delete your account, your remaining tickets are gone. Your ticket history and purchase records stay because of security and purchase-record obligations, with the link to your account removed. They can still hold your old random account ID, which no longer points to any account, and Apple’s details of each purchase, such as its transaction ID, date, price and storefront. They have no automatic deletion date today.
  • Editing cost log: a record of each paid call to OpenAI, with its cost and timing. It holds no photo content and isn’t tied to your account.
  • Database recovery: Our database provider maintains limited recovery history to help restore service after technical failures. On our current plan this history covers up to about the last 6 hours, so deleted records may remain in it for about that long. Recovery copies are not used for ordinary application access, and we don’t make other backups.
  • Deletion records: A short record of the file locations being deleted, which include your old random account ID, stays until a final check, usually within about an hour, confirms they are gone.

Deleting your data

You can do all of this in the app, and each one asks you to confirm first.

  • One photo. Open it from My Scrapbook and tap the delete button.
  • One page of My Scrapbook. Hold the page to delete it.
  • All your photo data. In Little Details, tap Delete My Photo Data. This removes every original and edit, and their history, from Scrappie. Your tickets and purchase records stay.
  • Your whole account. In the same place, choose to delete your whole account instead. This removes your account, every photo and your remaining tickets, ends the Sign in with Apple link, and can’t be undone. Ticket and purchase records stay, as described above.

Stored files are deleted along with their database records, and the server tries again automatically if a file delete fails. An edit still running when you delete its photo throws away its result and gives its ticket back.

Copies you saved to your Photos library or shared with other people are outside Scrappie, so they aren’t touched.

Who else handles your data

  • Vercel provides website hosting, application infrastructure, and private photo storage.
  • Neon provides our hosted PostgreSQL database.
  • OpenAI processes photos for AI analysis and editing.
  • Apple processes App Store purchases, refunds, and optional Sign in with Apple.
  • Cloudflare routes email sent to our support address to our email provider.

We store your photos and account data in the United States.

OpenAI’s role is described above, and Apple acts under its own privacy policy. We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising.

Children

Scrappie is intended for people aged 13 and older. It is not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has used Scrappie, we will take appropriate steps to remove their account and personal information as required by applicable law. Parents and guardians can contact support@scrappie.io with concerns.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, obtain a copy of, or restrict certain uses of your personal information. You can manage and delete saved photos and your account within Scrappie, and you can withdraw consent for future photo processing at any time in Little Details. For other privacy requests, contact support@scrappie.io. We may need to verify your request and retain limited information where required by law or necessary for security and purchase-record obligations. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.

Because accounts are anonymous, please include the support code from near the bottom of Little Details, so that we can find yours.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. See also our Terms of Service.
